17 Feb The Simpsons LIVE Episode Set To Air In May
It’s official, after 27 years, a Simpsons LIVE special is coming to our screens.
Set to air on May 15, the episode will end with a three minute live segment that will see Homer (voiced by Dan Castellaneta, obviously) discuss topical subjects and answer questions from fans in real time.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Al Jean has said that the producers will be going to great lengths to prove it is in fact live, by having Homer say things he “could only be saying live on that day.”
He also revealed that they plan to use motion-capture technology to produce the segment, which is probably a good idea considering how much of a strain it would have been on the animators’ wrists.
“As far as I know, this is the first time that’s been done by any animated show,” explained Jean, also acknowledging that the live segment works within the theme of the episode, which explores improv comedy. Having Castellaneta be the man to host the segment is a no-brainer, since as Jean said, “Dan is a great improviser.”
At the moment however, Fox are merely asking fans to tweet their questions using the hashtag #HomerLive beginning Sunday, May 1, through Wednesday, May 4. Â So start preparing your questions for Homer Jay now!
The news really comes as no surprise, since The Simpsons certainly aren’t strangers when it comes to breaking ground in animation. , an example of this being Matt Groening’s live conversation with Homer at Comic Con 2014.
