The Simpsons to drop Disney Plus special on World Simpsons Day
As many diehard Simpsons fans would be aware, April 19th is “World Simpsons Day”, a time to celebrate all things Springfield. Whether it be by watching a marathon of your favourite episodes, or simply cooking up some delicious steamed hams, everyone has their own unique way of paying tribute to the show.
Well, it turns out the fine folks at Simpsons HQ have a giant-sized gift for us all this year, a double-length Disney Plus special titled, “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition”.
In a recent interview on our Four Finger Discount podcast (see below), Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman went into detail about fans can expect from the special.
“What’s really cool about it, and what we’ve never done before, is this is a trilogy, but it’s a trilogy that has room to breathe”, Selman explains. “Each of the three segments are eight minutes long, and the wraparound is like a real episode story in and of itself.”
This is exciting news, since after 37 years on the air, it’s not very often The Simpsons can provide fans with a new concept to enjoy.
“It’s even longer than two episodes because it’s on streaming, so we’re not really locked into the commercial constraint [of television]” says Selman. “Honestly, there was stuff in this that I was watching and I was like, can we just make this the [Simpsons] movie?”
